I think I had the legs but apparently I didn't have the brains. At the start of the second lap an attack went off on the hill right before the start finish area.
Conveniently, I had positioned myself out of the wind on the right hand side of the road. Unconveniently, I was completely boxed in by slow riders. I didn't panic and chase at first because last year the field was quite strong and this happened every lap and was brought back easily. However no real chase was happening. The strong guys were in the front group and it was just Jason Delilo and I making any real effort to chase back. Jason managed to bridge on the back stretch and I got close but blew up. After riding for myself for a while I let the next group back catch me. It was obvious that they were all much more tired and slow on any sort of incline (or headwind) so if I didn't win that group sprint I definitely was lacking brains. The anger of missing the front group led me to beat them up for much of the next two laps and I almost didn't get the sprint when I had trouble shifting into my large chain ring. Ended up twelth. Hopefully lesson learned.
