Stage 6: circuit
Finally, something that wouldn’t suck so much. Up and down circuit, with sprints and KOMs on each lap.
By this time, Jared was in 6th overall, everyone but Dos Pinos and the local teams hated us, apparently because we were doing well. We had worked out a deal with Dos Pinos the day before, they said Jared could go, which was nice. So we told em we’d help em out, not like they needed it, but they understood we’d help to control all the agro guys that wanted to move up in the GC. Basically that’s what we did. They send a guy off alone, and we just chilled. I got in a break with a Dos Pinos rider, and we just contained the other guys, trading chasing down guys attacking and then sittin on their wheels. One lap on the downhill someone let cars on the course, pretty standard, and they were all stopped at a red light. So we flew between em at 65kph, at the front of course, being on the back of that would be just stupid. Jared got away with a Dos Pinos guy on the last lap, shot between us and a bus in the final round about, and held on for third. So a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd 8th and Jared 6th overall in the GC isn’t too bad. Then we went out for Mexican and Margaritas.
Some between race highlights. Brett shit his chamois, those amoeba s are pretty feisty.
Tyler cried after 2 days of racing with the runs, but after some antibiotics he was back to normal for the last day.
We only brought two sets of spare wheels, and one set included a disc, which also happened to be the only shimano rear wheel. Brett double flatted on the 18k climb, and had to ride the disc and front aero wheels for a while up the climb while his tubes were replaced. If only we had a photo.
Ate fried chicken every goddamn day. No one could get your order correct. Pizza Hut is Pizza Hut no matter where you are.
Washing your kit by candle light is WAY more romantic.
